Frank
R. Steinard, 78, a lifelong area resident, died on April 28, 2018 at ArchCare at
Ferncliff in Rhinebeck, NY. Born in Newburgh in 1940, he was the son of Ernest
Lloyd Steinard and Mildred (McElrath) Steinard. Frank served our country in the
U.S. Army National Guard for 6 years. 1st of the 156th Armor Div, Newburgh, NY. He retired from IBM East Fishkill in 1994
as Manager of Semiconductor Manufacturing, General Technology Division, and head
of the Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center (ASTC), the joint effort between
IBM, Siemens AG, and Toshiba Corp. concerned with manufacture and R&D of
semiconductor wafers. Upon his retirement, he was recognized for his
contribution to the evolution of Device Technology. He was remembered by the
many people that worked for him in IBM as a man that expected excellence from
his people, and always recognized and rewarded their devotion and hard work in
ways that made a difference to their lives. When the series of layoffs were
ordered from IBM Corporate in the 1990's, Frank worked tirelessly to find
alternate positions within IBM for the people in his employ. Although he was
able to help many, many people find new positions, it affected him deeply that
he could not save everyone. For years after his retirement, he would frequently
run into old employees while out shopping with his wife, Bonnie, and they would
sincerely thank him for saving their jobs. It meant the world to him that they
remembered him for his efforts. He was a life member of St. Mary's Council
#4065, Knights of Columbus, a member of the Antique Car Club of America, and the
IBM Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed antique cars, basketball, Elvis, and
animals - especially his granddaughter Katie's horse, Curious Little Lena, (aka
"CL"). He loved traveling to horse shows across the country to watch Katie and
CL compete nationally in NCHA events. In 2008, before CL earned a well-deserved
retirement, Katie made her "Pa" especially proud when she and CL achieved
Reserve Champion status in Columbus, Ohio at the All American Quarter Horse
Congress, the largest single breed horse show in the world. Frank is survived by
his wife, Bonnie (Bueb); his children, Kim Louise Steinard of Poughkeepsie, and
Todd Edward Steinard of Fishkill; his granddaughter, Katie Laura Borell; his
brothers, Edward and John Steinard; his brother-in-law, Joel E. Bueb, his wife,
Patti and their family; his special friends, Janice Johnson, Peggy and Larry
Reis; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ernest
Steinard Jr. and Helen Knauss. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3 to 7
p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill
followed by a service at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis
Foundation Inc., or the Alzheimer's Association. Please visit Frank's Book of
Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com
