Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 09/May/2018 184.101.245.55

Patrick (Pat) Daley left the stage today and took his final bow to join musicians of all genres in heaven. Pat was a finger picker of exceptional talent and left behind several guitars he loved more than his nonexistent wife. Pat had various careers over the years: programming for IBM, being a Transcendental Meditation Teacher, an accomplished magician and obviously well-loved musician. In Pat's early years he admired Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan and the Beatles. The Fab Four found Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and by some sort of cosmic osmosis, Pat was introduced to him as well. Pat attended St. Mary's Catholic Grammar school, North Junior HS and Newburgh Free Academy where Pat excelled at wrestling (147lbs) and football. Pat attended SUNY Brockport and the following year left to attend Maharishi International University in Fairfield Iowa where he earned a degree in Mathematics. This is also where Pat found Leo Kottke and Doc Watson - legends of the style of picking he admired so much. As Pat matured as a person and musician, he played in many of the Hudson Valley's more prominent venues for aspiring artists such as the Hudson Valley Folk Guild, Hyde Park Library Annex as well as the Lunch & Listen series of the Poughkeepsie Lutheran Church and various coffee houses. For all the accolades he received for his performances, he never let his fame go to his head. Pat's favorite gig was to accompany his twin nieces Kate and Kelly Daley, who predeceased him and were the first to welcome him in heaven. Pat was also predeceased by his father, John (Jack), mother Catherine (Kay) ,and brother Chris (Whale). Pat is survived by his sister Diane (Dee) Daley of Marlboro, Sister-in-law Nancy Daley of Newburgh, brother William Daley of New Windsor, brother John Daley of Poughkeepsie and brother Mark and his wife Susan Daley of Kennesaw, Georgia. Pat also has nieces and nephews who will miss their favorite uncle dearly: Jennifer Daley of Albany, NY, Jack and his wife Kristie Daley of Wappingers Falls, NY, Camille Gnann-Daley and her husband James Gnann of Arlington, VA, Chris Daley of Denver, CO and Michelle Daley of Mahopac, NY. Additionally, like any good Irish-Lebanese catholic family from New York, Pat leaves behind dozens of cousins, including the O'Rourkes, Chumases, Nortons and Kaleels, who will miss Pat's charm, jokes, and bohemian style tie-dye shirts. A celebration of his life will take place at Brooks Funeral home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh, on Saturday May 12 from Noon to 2:30pm. This will be followed by a celebration of music at the Falcon in Marlboro from 3PM to 5 PM In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Hudson Valley Folk Guild at P.O. Box F, Poughkeepsie, NY 12602 or Habitat for Humanity of Newburgh, or any research towards male pattern baldness (an affliction Pat battled his entire life).
