Message:

Rosalie V. Flannery of New Windsor, a retired Registered Nurse and lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 93 years old. Daughter of the late Francis and Louise Darthez Flannery, she was born March 9, 1916 in Newburgh. Rosalie graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, (Listed in Camera Shy 1933) St. Luke's Nursing School, Syracuse University and Columbia University in the City of New York. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. Rosalie proudly served her country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. Rosalie was an eternal optimist. She loved spending time with family and friends, following the New York Mets, listening to the news on her transistor radio and talking politics. We all have fond memories we cherish of time spent with Rosalie whether at Lavallette, New Jersey, the Thousand Islands, Carter Street or wherever we were together.Rosalie will be deeply missed by her sister, Madelyn and the rest of her family. She is survived by her sister, Madelyn Flannery and her sister, Jeanne Finkenaur, and nieces and Nephews: Steven (Diane) Halstead, Jill (Lewis) Jordan, Jim Finkenaur, Jeff Finkenaur, Robert Finkenaur, Kenneth Finkenaur, Jean Marie Finkenaur; cousin, Phyllis Cashin, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Loraine Halstead. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
