Donald “Bloomsie” K. Blomquist, 71 of Walden, retired from Wallkill Correctional Facility as Food Service Administrator in 2010, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Sapphire Nursing Home, Newburgh. Son of the late Oscar Erlin and Marie Middleton Blomquist, he was born December 21, 1946 in Jamaica Queens, NY. He married his beloved Cynthia (Lambert) Blomquist on July 9, 1977-Cynthia survives at home. Donald was proud to serve our country as a member of the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-71. He earned his Associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park with honors in 1973. He was a member of the Hospital, Institutional and Educational Food Service Society and a certified member of the Dietary Manager’s Association. Bloomsie loved working on his Harley Davidson & riding was his passion. He recruited many avid bikers to join him at Harley Rendezvous where he entered in bike contests and won many trophies. As a Chef, Bloomsie cooked many holiday meals for his extended family, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! After all, he learned a lot about cooking from the CIA but also from Angelo Foglia at the Ship Lantern Inn, Milton, NY.
