“Bloomsie” K. Blomquist, 71 of Walden, retired from Wallkill Correctional
Facility as Food Service Administrator in 2010, entered into rest on Tuesday,
June 19, 2018 at Sapphire Nursing Home, Newburgh. Son of the late Oscar Erlin
and Marie Middleton Blomquist, he was born December 21, 1946 in Jamaica Queens,
NY. He married his beloved Cynthia (Lambert) Blomquist on July 9, 1977-Cynthia
survives at home. Donald was proud to serve our country as a member of the US
Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-71. He earned his Associate’s degree from
the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park with honors in 1973. He was
a member of the Hospital, Institutional and Educational Food Service Society and
a certified member of the Dietary Manager’s Association. Bloomsie loved working
on his Harley Davidson & riding was his passion. He recruited many avid bikers
to join him at Harley Rendezvous where he entered in bike contests and won many
trophies. As a Chef, Bloomsie cooked many holiday meals for his extended family,
which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! After all, he learned a lot about cooking
from the CIA but also from Angelo Foglia at the Ship Lantern Inn, Milton, NY. In
addition to his loving wife Cynthia, Bloomsie leaves to cherish his memory his
son, Alex Michael Blomquist of Walden; his sisters, Elberta Garrison of
Wallkill, NY and Kathy Seymour of Gardiner, NY; nephew Daniel Rugar and many
