Thelma F. Meehan - Class of 1938

  Thelma F. Meehan of Newburgh, a longtime resident of the area, entered into rest on Saturday, June 23, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newburgh on November 10, 1920, to the late William and Carolyn Smith Meehan, Thelma was 97. Thelma attended Newburgh Free Academy, and worked as a telephone operator for AT&T. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers. Thelma was a devoted caregiver to her siblings in their early life. A woman of great faith, she was devoted to her church. She was a member of the third Order of the Dominican Sisters of Mount Saint Mary. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Eileen Meehan and Sr. Mary Carolyn, OP; nieces Jacqueline Meehan, and Maureen Smith (Kenneth) of New Windsor, Kathleen Welt (Carroll) of Rock Tavern, NY: great nieces and nephews Kelly Smith, Dr. Kenneth Smith, Paul Welt and Eileen Welt. In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank all of Thelma's caregivers, especially Ashley. Thank you as well to all the nurses at St. Luke's 3rd floor and Hospice for their wonderful care. Visitation will take place from 9:30-10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 27 at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Born: November 10, 1920 Burial will be celebrated at 11AM, in Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Marlboro, NY. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma's memory can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, the Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of one's choice
