Ronald Shapiro passed away on June 28, 2018 in Boca Raton, Florida. Born on November 6th, 1930 and raised in Newburgh, NY. Son of Samuel and Sarah Shapiro, brother of the late Seymour, Jerome, and Lawrence Shapiro. He leaves his beloved wife, Dorene, of 66 years, and adoring children Gary Shapiro (Patricia Walker), Marc Shapiro (Tina Valverde), and Shari Harris (Ron Harris), grandchildren Ryan Shapiro, Rachel (Alex) Shapiro/Rushlander, Adam Shapiro, Robin Shapiro, Jessica (Marty) Harris/Shapiro, and Emma Harris, and great granddaughter, Eve Shapiro. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ron was a talented athlete with a particular passion for basketball, softball, and horseback riding. As a young man, he joined his father, uncle, and brothers in the horse and livestock business in Kingston, NY. The business evolved into the Newburgh Furniture Mart, which continues to serve many generations of Hudson Valley families. He was an active supporter, volunteer, and board member of Jewish organizations including Congregation Agudas Israel, the United Jewish Appeal (UJA), and Alyn Hospital and the Beit Frankforter Center in Israel. In 1983, he and his wife, Dorene, moved to Israel to fulfill her lifelong dream, and lived and worked in Jerusalem for 23 years. They moved from Israel to Florida in their retirement, where he enjoyed spending time with family and old and new friends. In his later years, he channeled his creativity through greeting card-making, all of which were sold to benefit the Beit Frankforter Center (Jerusalem Center for the Elderly). He loved horses, dancing, Latin music, and telling jokes, but what he loved most of all was his family. He will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2018 at 10:00 am at Congregation Agudas Israel, 290 North Street, Newburgh, NY; interment at the Agudas Israel Cemetery in New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
