Salvatore A. Colacchio, 90, of Newburgh, entered into rest on July 26, 2018. The son of the late Paul and Mary (Stella) Colacchio, he was born October 17, 1927 in Newburgh. He was married to the late Catherine Colacchio, who predeceased him in 2013. Sal proudly served his country in the US Navy as a Seabee during WW II and the Korean War. Following his years of service, he was the Electrical Superintendent at West Point until retirement from Federal Service and later worked as the Electrical Supervisor at Stewart Airport. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake, a member of Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, VFW, and American Legion. He loved taking road trips, camping, eating out, especially with his wife, Catherine before her passing, along with golfing and taking his dog to the dog park. Sal was a family man and enjoyed all family activities. He loved hanging out with his sister Rose and very much treasured the times he had with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He leaves a legacy of being a sweet, kind and gentle man who was loved by everyone and will truly be missed. Our family would like to thank our live-in Aide, Jacob Bediako, from Community Home Health Care, who provided extraordinary compassion and care during his final months. Sal is survived by his children, Stephen Colacchio and his wife Terri of Leland NC, and Vivien Wells of Newburgh; his sister Rose Lombardi of Newburgh; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kelly Colacchio, Nicholas Wells and his wife Nicole, Stephen Colacchio and his wife Kathryn and their children Mia and Marco; Philip Colacchio and his wife Dara and their children Max and Lily, and Michael Colacchio and his wife Brittani and their children Sal, Izzy, Sloane and Zoe; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Catherine he was predeceased by his brother, Dominic Colacchio. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, August 2 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, August 3 at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh. Burial with military honors will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Sal's memory may be sent to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550; Community Home Health Care, 290 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550; of Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter, 645 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. - October 17, 1927 ~ July 26, 2018
