Thomas "Tom" F. Bell, of the Town of Newburgh, a retired machine operator for American Felt & Filter in New Windsor entered into rest peacefully, Saturday, August 18, 2018. He was 85. Son of the late Elijah T. and Maude J. (Warren) Bell, Thomas was born March 17, 1933 in Newburgh, NY. Tom graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1952. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War for a total of 12 1/2 years and frequently spoke of his service on the U.S.S. Howard W. Gilmore with great pride. Tom had a strong love of his country, the American Flag and our military. He was also a life member of the VFW Post No. 973 in Newburgh, the Free and Accepted Mason and a past member of the Dan Leghorn Engine Co. #1 Volunteer Fire Department in Orange Lake. Tom had a love of photography and cameras and would always take pictures. He also loved fishing with his brother, Gerald, (Jerry). Tom is survived by his brother, Bertram Bell of Greenville, SC and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers; Richard (Dick), John, Robert (Bob) and Gerald (Jerry) Bell all of Newburgh. Private cremation took place at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Graveside Service is pending at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen with military honors. Replies to this post No replies yet |
