Charles J. Capitano passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 following a brief illness. He was 72. Son of Anthony Capitano and Eleanor Barbito, he was born in Bayonne, NJ on January 29, 1946. Charles graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1963, and soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1967. On May 26, 1989, he married the love of his life, Elvira A. Donofrio in Fishkill. Elvira survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Charles worked at IBM East Fishkill as a Planner and retired after 44 years in 2011. Charles will always be remembered for his wit, charm and his endearing smile. He had an immense passion for music, and he especially enjoyed listening to DooWop and R&B. He was an avid fan of The Duprees and supported the group in any way he could, whether it was buying their latest release or seeing them in concert. The admiration was mutual, as the group became equally fond of Charles. He enjoyed dancing and did so for many years, never letting his illness stand in the way of shaking up the dance floor. Charles was also a lifelong NY Yankees fan. In addition to Elvira, additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Beatrice G. Donofrio of Beacon; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gloria & Lawrence Hultz of Williamson, NY and Nicholas & Anita Donofrio of Ridgefield, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by a host of dear friends whom he considered part of his family. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 14 at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; www.stjude.org For directions and online tributes, you can visit Charles' Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com  Published in the Poughkeepsie Journal on Sept. 12, 2018
