Thomas Joseph Bowe
passed away on September 9, 2018 at home in Surfside Beach SC. The son of the
late Thomas Michael and Maude Ann Bowe, he was born on April 8, 1933 in Cornwall
NY. Tom spent his childhood in Newburgh, graduating from Newburgh Free Academy
in 1950. As an avid athlete spending hours at the Newburgh YMCA, he participated
in every sport, excelling at basketball and hockey. Tom played Shortstop for
Newburgh Fast Pitch Softball and was later inducted into the Newburgh Fast Pitch
Softball Hall of Fame. Early on Tom was employed by Stanwick Winding and Shapiro
Distributors in Newburgh before being hired by IBM Corporation in 1954. Tom
married Mary V. Lease in 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh and in 1960
moved to New Windsor NY. And just like that Tom and his family became part of
the “Mark Street” gang! Tom continued his love of sports by playing golf and
floor hockey every week and enjoyed skiing and ice skating with his children
every winter. Summer was reserved for vacations, swimming and barbecuing with
family and friends. As an umpire for the Town of New Windsor Little League for
many years, Tom was well known and respected by the baseball players in the
community. Making memories with his “forever friends” from Newburgh and New
Windsor was what Tom liked to do! Tom retired from IBM in 1991 with 37 years of
service as a Procurement Manager. After retiring Tom kept busy playing sports
and worked at Fracasse Mechnical and Coloni Funeral Home in Newburgh. In 1995
Tom and Mary moved to Surfside Beach SC to escape the cold and enjoy golf. Tom
was a member of the Southwood Architectural Committee and Neighborhood Night
Watch. Between golf games he managed to squeeze in a part-time job as a starter
and ranger at Indian Wells and Wicked Stick. Retirement years with his friends
in the Myrtle Beach area were spectacular. Tom loved his family and friends. He
is forever loved and will be missed by the family, friends and the communities
he leaves behind. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Maude Bowe and
