Barbara Leifheit Watters of Newburgh, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Saturday, October 13, 2018. She was just shy of her 77th birthday. Daughter of the late Herman and Edith (Terwilliger) Leifheit, she was born on October 27, 1941 in Newburgh. During her school years she enjoyed attending Hi-Y dances with her friends and graduated from NFA in 1960. In later years she enjoyed reconnecting with her childhood friends and spent many hours planning class reunions at their monthly luncheons and outings. A longtime member of the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Barbara later became a Chief Dispatcher, which she was very proud of. She later worked for Medical Arts Pharmacy for 25 years as a delivery driver. Barbara was also active with Girl Scouts of America. Barbara is survived by her "baby sister", Betsy Leifheit of Newburgh; two daughters, Cara Butler of Eagle, Idaho and her three sons, and Susan Mancinelli-Small of the Town of Newburgh; one son James J. Watters III and partner, Kevin Behrent also of Newburgh; three wonderful grandchildren: Danielle Small Sorvillo and her husband, Sal of Wappingers Falls, Jennifer Small and her partner, Matt Fredrickson of Hagerstown, Maryland and her favorite little buddy, Thomas M. Small Jr. of the Town of Newburgh; "her favorite son-in-law", Thomas M. Small, Sr., of the Town of Newburgh; two great grandchildren, Luca Sorvillo and Eloise Fredrickson. Barbara is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Leah and Elaine. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by the love of her life, James J. Watters Sr., and her former husband Anthony Mancinelli, Jr. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 16 at the White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17 at the funeral home. Private cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory with burial to follow at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen at a later date. Barbara had a zest for life and loved color. In her honor, per her wishes, please wear something colorful in celebration of her life.
