John M. "Jack" Mager entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was 62 years young. Jack is the son of the late John and Helen (Zadorozny) Mager. He was born in Lorain, Ohio on January 9, 1956. Jack attended Ashland University where he received his Bachelors and Masters in physical education; he also received his Administrative Certificate from SUNY New Paltz. Jack was a loving husband of 37 years and proud father to two beautiful daughters. He was looking forward to the birth of his first granddaughter. He was an All-American track athlete in college. His love for the sport put him on a career path as a physical education teacher and track coach at Drexel University, the United States Military Academy at West Point, Vails Gate Elementary School, and Newburgh Free Academy. He also served as the Athletic Director at Sullivan County Community College and the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Jack was most recently an administrator in the Poughkeepsie City School District and coordinator of after school programs. Throughout his entire tenure, he truly loved working with the staff and children. Jack was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. He was an aviation enthusiast and loved watching local airshows from his front yard near Stewart Airport. He enjoyed umpiring men's slow pitch softball in the summer months and vacationing in Oak Island, North Carolina. He was a great man, teacher, mentor, coach and friend to many and will be truly missed by all. Jack is survived, and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Michelle Hura Mager; children Stephanie (Eduardo) Lara of Brooklyn, NY and Lauren (Conner) Sullivan of Newburgh, NY; siblings Myron J. (Sharon) Mager, sister-in-law Melissa Harpst, Arta Hura, brother-in-law Michael E. (Olga) Hura; nieces and nephews Melissa Clark, Rebecca Johns, Morgan Cornell, Zachary Harpst, Garrett Harpst, Michael S. Hura, Mitchell Hura, Emily Hura and Marissa Hura. Jack is predeceased by his Mother and Father
- Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home Friday, November 2nd from 4-8pm. Mass will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, at Our Lady of the Lake Church at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack's memory can be made out to the American Heart Association at 301 Manchester Rd # 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
