Melvin J. Tweed - Class of 1947

  Melvin J. Tweed, 89, of Hyde Park, a retired painter for the Newburgh School District, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Staatsburg, NY. Son of the late James and Lucille (Tompkins) Tweed, he was born in Newburgh, NY on February 12, 1929. Melvin married his beloved wife, Jennie, who predeceased Melvin. Melvin was a member of Gardnertown Methodist Church, Past Governor of Newburgh Lodge #969 of the Loyal Order of Moose, former member of Goodfellowship Dartball League and Melvin was proud to serve our nation as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Melvin was a wonderful father; a hard worker whom everyone fell in love with who knew him and he was always willing to give a helping hand. Survivors include Melvin's children, JoAnn and her husband, Frank DeMatteo of Barnegat, NJ, Michael Tweed and his wife, Gayle of Camp Hill, PA, Melvin J. Tweed, Jr. of Auburn, NY and Terri Couchman of Hyde Park, NY; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his siblings, Allada Lake of Washingtonville, NY and Sally Griffin of Vails Gate, NY and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wife, Melvin was predeceased by his Son, Anthony; brothers, Robert, James Jr., George and Donald; sisters, Shirley (Prendergast) Wolfrum, Patricia Griffin, Lukie Witt, Lorraine Sharkey and Irma Ferguson. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, November 25 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, November 26, at Brooks Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
