Milton Eager - Class of 1943

     Milton A. Eager, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Sunday, November 25, 2018. He was 93 years old. The son of the late Milton S. and Eulla C. (Sarvis) Eager, Milton was born May 3, 1925 in Newburgh. During World War II, Milton proudly served his country in the Army's 24th Infantry Division where he achieved the rank of Sargent. He fought in the South West Pacific in the jungles of New Guinea and in the Liberation of the Philippines and was awarded several medals; after the war ended he was sent to Japan for occupation duty for four months and then shipped home. He was a member in the American Legion Post 1420. Milton worked as a maintenance foreman for Dubette Bags in Newburgh; then went to Lloyds Shopping Center where he worked for 17 years then retired. Milton was predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Eleanor Maines Eager. They often talked about Newburgh and the way it used to be and hoped someday it would return to be a proud city once again. Milton is survived by his beloved daughters: Marilyn Babcock and husband, Fred of Little River, SC, Judith A. McDermott of Wallkill and Elaine Mitchetti and husband, Rick of the Town of Newburgh; half-brother, John Eager and half-sister, Leah Clifford; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Eleanor, Milton was predeceased by an infant son, Steven Eager and a brother, Joseph Eager and sister, Constance Lester. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Rd. ( Rte 32), Newburgh. Funeral service will commence 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Mausoleum with military honors.
