Alfred DiCesare - Class of 1945 & Asst. Superintendent for Human Resources

      Alfred Charles DiCesare passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the Eddy Village Green in Slingerlands, NY surrounded by his family. Al was born on August 7, 1927 in Newburgh, NY and spent most of his adult life in New Windsor, NY. He was the son of the late Mary and Gerardo DiCesare. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine (Kitty) DiCesare. He is survived by his son Stephen P. DiCesare and his wife Donna of Guilderland, his daughter Kathleen D. Boyd and her husband Peter of Glenville, and his grandchildren Theresa DiCesare, Nicole Gowan (Maxim), Matthew Boyd (Jessica) and Alexander Boyd (Luna). Al is predeceased by his brother Victor DiCesare (Irene), and survived by his sister Kathleen Barone (C. Peter) and his brother Gerald DiCesare (Barbara). Al was an Electrician's Mate in the Navy at the end of World War II. Upon returning from the service he attended Mohawk College and the New York State College for Teachers in Albany where he earned his Bachelors and Two Masters Degrees in Counseling and Educational Administration. He started his teaching career at the Tri-Valley School in Grahamsville, NY as a Business Education Teacher and a Guidance Counselor. He then went on to Montgomery High School in New York again as a Business Teacher and Guidance Counselor. In 1954 he began his 36-year career in the Newburgh City School District. He started as a Business Teacher and Guidance Counselor at South Junior High School, then became the Assistant Principal and then Principal, a position in which he served for 24 years. In 1973, Al served the district as Acting Superintendent and dealt with a ten-day teacher strike against the district. He retired from Education as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources for Newburgh in 1990. Al was a lifelong member of the Lion's Club and the American Legion. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and always enjoyed a good dish of pasta, marching band music and the circus. Alfred and Kitty moved to the Capital District of New York in 2005 to live at Avila in Albany, where they had a wonderful group of friends that became known as the dirty dozen. He followed by residing at the Eddy Terraces in Niskayuna, Justin Meadows in Glenville and and Beverwyck in Slingerlands. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Eddy Village Green, Beverwyck for all of their care and compassion given to Alfred. Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY on Tuesday, December 4 from 4-7pm. A Roman Catholic Mass and burial will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, NY at 10am on Wednesday, December 5. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205
