Bonnie Boykin Sampson was born on October 15, 1961 to Ethel Beamon and the late Willie Boykin in Newburgh, NY. She was 57 when she entered into rest on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Bonnie was raised in Newburgh and attended schools in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. She was a member of the Black Student Coalition while attending Newburgh Free Academy and graduated in 1979. She furthered her education at Berkeley Institute for Secretarial Training. Bonnie was very active in the community as well as in the church. As a child, she received her Christian foundation while attending the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ under the tutelage of the late Bishop George Johnson. She participated with the Sunday School Department, sang with the Youth Choir and was involved in Disciples of Christ Youth Fellowship (DCYF). After Bishop Johnson's demise, The Reverend Thurmond Herring was installed as the new pastor and Bonnie continued serving until 2003. It was at this point that she became a member of The Cathedral at The House after meeting with Reverend Herring and receiving his blessings. At The Cathedral, Bonnie was very supportive and was involved in several ministries within the church. Whenever there was a funeral, you could always find Bonnie greeting at the door with Mother Connie Williams keeping things in line. She also served on the Pastor's Aide and made it her business to be a blessing to the pastor and his family. If you wanted to get her going just say something about her Bishop. As Bonnie was a Member of the Orange County Democratic Team, she often encouraged voter registration drives within the church and she wanted to make sure that everyone knew the correct polling place to go and cast their vote. She was also an active member of Pop's Pets and Pals and the Youth NAACP. Bonnie leaves to cherish her memories three sons: Malcolm Boykin, Moleek Sampson and Jovan Sampson, all of Newburgh, NY; two daughters, Kadisha Sampson of Beacon, NY and Shamere Sampson of Newburgh, NY; three sisters of Albany, NY; nine brothers: Stanley Holden of Newburgh, NY, Chester Lane of Radcliff, KY, Andrew Lane of Smithfield, NC, Daryl Lane (Diane) of Indianapolis, IN, Frankie Lane of Albany, NY, Charles Faison (Mary) of Radcliff, KY, Eric Smith (Maleeka) of Beacon, NY, George Hursey (Debbie) of Syracuse, NY and Gary Leach (Marilyn) of Fayetteville, NC; ten grandchildren: Brandon Sampson, Kashad Johnson, Demaria Pittman, Quazir Hayes, Loquanis Keys, Amirah Sampson, Jovan Sampson, Amor Sampson, Khadeem Sutton and Sayvione Sampson, along with a host of nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories six godchildren: Preshea Ferrell, Narobia Jones, Nashonda McDoe, Hallona Rayford, Latavious Murphy and Waynisha Whitted. She was predeceased by her father, Willie Boykin; a brother, Herman DeJesus; and two grandchildren, Ameena Sampson and Saint Lennon. In her style, Bon would like to send special thanks to Hester Davis, her CDPAP and hospice, Diane and Niecy Caldwell, Marsetta Shirley, Pilar Cooper, Adam Bowman, Maurice and Veronica Williams, Robin Williams, Quanita Elliott (Tootie Gail), Lady Audrey Williams, The Cathedral's Ministerial Staff, The Mother's Board and The Cathedral Church Family.
