Sheila Nipomnich Abrams 87, a resident of Pomona, NY, passed away on August 24, 2018. She will be greatly missed for her loving devotion to her husband and family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sheila attended P.S. 235, P.S. 208, and Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, graduating as salutatorian from Newburgh Free Academy in 1948. She went on to graduate from Vassar College in 1952 with a degree in chemistry. She worked as a chemist at General Electric in Schenectady, NY and Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA. Later, Sheila became a teacher and taught for many years in the East Ramapo Central School District, mainly at Lime Kiln Elementary School. A generous donor to many charities, Sheila loved animals, especially her dogs. She was a talented artist and an avid reader. The daughter of Florence and Jacob Nipomnich, Sheila was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Marvin J. Abrams, the love of her life. She is survived by her son Paul Abrams and wife Jane Bloodgood Abrams; her daughter Sarah Abrams and husband Efren Valerio; her son Gordon Abrams and wife Bettina Abrams; and her grandchildren Erica, Fiona, and James. She is also survived by her sister Carol Nipomnich Dixon and husband John Dixon, her brother-in-law Irwin Abrams, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Interment took place at the Jewish Community Center Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona, NY. Published in the The Journal News on Dec. 21, 2018
