Helen P. Zilavy of Newburgh NY passed away January 22, 2019, at the Northern Riverview Nursing Home, Haverstraw NY; she was 91. She was the daughter of Stanley and Josephine Makarewicz of New Windsor NY. A retired seamstress, Helen worked many years for several garment manufacturing companies in the Newburgh area. Her passion was designing and making clothes for herself and others. She is survived by her daughters, Mary P. Canfield of Burlingham NY and Carol A. Zilavy of Middletown NY; her sisters, Anna Cardamone and Alice Cook and brother, Edward Makarewicz all of New Windsor NY. She is also survived by three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Zilavy; a sister, Gertrude Reynolds and brothers, Stanley and John Makarewicz. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Published in Times Herald-Record from Jan. 23 to Jan. 24, 2019
