Marlene A. Koisch of Newburgh, retired from City Hall and two-time term server of Newburgh's City Council, entered into rest on Saturday, January 26, 2019. She was 81 years old. Born October 13, 1937 in Newburgh, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn Hammill Wynne. Marlene was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, class of 1955. She worked at IBM after graduation before working at Newburgh's Urban Renewal. Next, she switched to the Newburgh City Manager's office, finally landing a job as Newburgh's City Clerk in August of 1971, a position she held for 25 years. She also held a position as the Secretary for the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals. She was elected into two terms of Newburgh's City Council after retiring from City Hall, a position which she was very honored to hold. She considered City Hall her "home," after having spent 30 years of her life there. She was a woman who loved her family and friends dearly, but who also loved the city that she lived in. She was a woman with a big heart that touched many people in many different ways. Survivors include her lifelong companion of over 45 years Alfred Birdsall; daughter Marlayna Pritchard and her husband Chris, son Jeff Birdsall and his wife Christine, daughter Nadina Alarcon, and daughter Laurina Maurice and her husband Frank, all of Newburgh; her grandchildren Mefy Alarcon, Danielle Sarita and her husband Gil, Lexie Hopkins and her husband Eric, Evan Birdsall, Katie and Torie Wiley, Frankie and Anthony Maurice, and Joey Ponessi; and her beloved great granddaughter Giabella Sarita. Family will receive their friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 at the Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial will be held following the Mass on Wednesday, at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
