  Jermaine Cobsy Cooper also known as "Coby Kane", a lifelong resident of Newburgh, NY entered into eternal rest on January 26, 2019 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. He was 40. Jermaine was born July 20, 1978 to the late Elmira Cooper-Brunson and Samuel Brandon. He was well known and loved by the community and was always known around Newburgh for his fun demeanor and jokes for days, there was no way you'd be able to leave his presence without a smile on your face. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Sheila Cooper; two sisters, Beatrice Cooper and Teresa Bailey; one brother, Benjamin Cooper; one stepbrother, James White; two aunts, Joann Cooper and Elaine Williams; one uncle, Lester Cooper; nieces: Janise Lewis, Tone'Ya Bryant, Dorthea Bryant-Sampson (Omar) and Raziyah Bailey; nephews: Robert Ware Jr., Jeh'mir and Jeh'si Arnold; and a host of cousins, friends and loved ones. In addition to his parents, Jermaine is predeceased by his oldest sister, Yolanda Michelle Bryant; youngest brother, Robert Bailey Jr.; two cousins, Larnell Underwood and Lester Anthony Hawkins. Mr. Cooper will lie in repose from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5 at Church of God By Faith, 29 Bridge St., Newburgh, NY 12550. Funeral Service is at 11 a.m. at the church.  1 dead in Newburgh shooting; 4 arrested following police chase A fatal shooting in the City of Newburgh ended in a police chase into the City of Poughkeepsie and charges against four Poughkeepsie men, according to Newburgh police. Newburgh resident Jermaine Cooper, 40, died early Saturday morning after being shot, according to a release from the Newburgh police. Donnell Johnson, 24, of the City of Poughkeepsie, and Steven Williams, 29, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, were charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Kyreem Seiman, 18, and Tysheed McPhee, 23, both City of Poughkeepsie residents, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

Report: Nine shots fired - Newburgh police received reports of nine shots fired in the area of Hasbrouck Street before 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to a release from the department. Police found Cooper shot in the lower torso. Mobile Life Support Services transported Cooper to St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. He died from his injuries around 2 a.m. Saturday, police said. Witness reports and street cameras indicated the shooting took place from within a white Toyota RAV4, and the SUV left the scene going toward Route 9W, police said. A Town of Newburgh police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description travelling northbound on Route 9W at high speeds. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, resulting in a chase, according to the release. The chase continued northbound on Route 9W before crossing over the Mid-Hudson Bridge. The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department joined the chase as the car headed toward the bridge, according to Poughkeepsie Sgt. George Camacho. The SUV crashed in the area of Smith and Lent streets in the City of Poughkeepsie, and four occupants fled on foot. City of Poughkeepsie police and other law enforcement agencies arrested the four suspects, City of Newburgh police said. "The suspects were quickly apprehended," Camacho said. "They only got a few feet from the car before police were on them."
