Cynthia McNair Smalley was born July 18, 1962 in Newburgh, NY to Lillie McNair and Lacey McNair Jr. She was the second youngest of five children. Cynthia attended the Newburgh Academy and went on to Berkley College in White Plains, NY, where she received her Associate's degree in Marketing. On June 27, 1987, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Moriaki "Marty" Smalley in Wahiawa, Hawaii. To that union, two children were born. Cynthia began work as a Childcare Provider for CYS in Fort Carson, CO in 1992. This was the start of a life-long career enriching many children's lives including her own. She went on to become a pre-k teacher and then an assistant director in 2018. Cynthia happily became a grandmother on June 12, 2009 to a grandson and a granddaughter. She had a tremendous love for learning that led her to enrolling in Ashford University, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Social Science on June 18, 2012. She then returned and graduated with honors, receiving her Master's degree summa cum laude in Early Childhood Development on February 10, 2014. Cynthia could always bring light to any situation. She loved cooking and baking for her family. She especially loved to bake with her children. She was always trying new recipes. Cynthia enjoyed redecorating her home and keeping up with the latest fashion trends. Her big heart had room for all her family, friends, and the numerous children whose lives she touched. She was inspired and inspiring all at once. Cynthia put love and compassion into anything and everything she set out to do. Her father, Lacey McNair Jr., precedes her in death.
