Robert Thomas, a long-time resident of Maybrook, NY, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He retired from Central Hudson Gas and Electric after 32 years of service. Bob also retired as a Command Sergeant Major from the United States Army as a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, as well as a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. In addition to serving his country, he loved to serve his community. He found time in many capacities and volunteered his time with the Maybrook Little League, The Boy Scouts of America, the Village of Maybrook planning board, as well as various administrative duties at the Maybrook United Methodist Church. He was honored as the Grand Marshall in the Memorial Day Parade in May, 2012. Born on October 20th, 1946 in Fayetteville, NC, he was the son of the late Vater Pollard and Jackson Thomas. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Stevens); sons: Paul (South Beach, Florida), and Brent and his wife Christine (Middletown, NY). He also is survived by Charles Thomas Sr. (Mildred), Shirley Davis, Gwen Thomas, Diane Gerald, and Desmond Pollard; mother-in-law Grace Stevens, sisters-in-law Irene Russell (Frank), Shirley Harris, Grace Martin (George), and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Bobby". He is pre-deceased by his brothers, Lawrence, and Frankie Thomas, brothers-in-law, Lindson Gerald, and Arthur Harris. Our entire family is deeply saddened by the passing of Bob, who is now without a doubt, with the angels. He was an angel to all that knew him with his can-do spirit, his always helping a lending hand, his building and mechanical abilities, his sport prowess, his service in the Army, and the Army Reserves, and his love of God, Man, and Country.
