Doris F. (Dodie) Field, 91, of Sakon-net Bay Manor, Main Rd., Tiverton, R.I., died on Saturday, October 20, 2007 on route to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, Mass. Born in Newburgh, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ellen (Whitehead) Floyde and a sister of the late Raymond W. Floyde of Herkimer, N.Y. Mrs. Field was a graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy and had lived in Little Falls, N.Y. prior to moving to Danbury in 1950. Her former husband, the late George Field, was general manager of Sperry Rail Service in Danbury for many years and vice-president of Automation Industries, Sperry's parent company. She is survived by her son, George Field IV and his wife, Claudette of Rumford, R.I. and her nephew, George Vandewater of Encinitas, Calif. Mrs. Field worked at the Danbury Public Library in the late 60s and 70s. Before that, she volunteered for many years at Danbury Hospital and later at the library and the local probation office. She was a member of the Danbury Music Center and sang with the Danbury Community Chorus for more than 30 years. In 1989, she took part in the chorus' concert tour to Austria and Eastern Europe. At her request, the service will be private.
