Helen Smith Lander - Class of 1942

  Helen M. Lander, a lifelong resident of New Windsor, spending the last eight years in Goshen, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. She was 82. Daughter of the late George and Virginia Smith, she was born October 3, 1924 in Newburgh. Helen was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. She was also a past member of the American Legion Post 1796 of New Windsor, Goshen Senior Center, and Elant Choice Day Break. A Family Statement reads: "Our mom was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her joys were cooking and spending quality times with family and friends. She was loved and will be dearly missed." She is survived by her sons, James A. Lander of New Windsor, and Gary A. Lander and his wife, Roseann of Warwick; grandchildren: Michelle Lander of Seattle, Wash., Kimberly E. Simons and husband, David of Montgomery, Jeanne Branca and husband, Fred of Patterson, N.Y., Michael A. Lander and wife, Jennifer of Dunedin, Fla., and Virginia Maria Lander of Warwick; great grandchildren, Autumn, Kinsey, Michael, Nicole, Samantha, and Marlie. She was predeceased by her late husband, Anthony J. in 1974. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Funeral Home Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday June 11 at Brooks Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
