Helen V. Lukacik, formerly of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle, PA. She was 93. Daughter of the late Nicholas and Andela Capos Kostolansky, she was born September 5, 1916 in Washington, DC. After the death of her mother, she was raised by Mary Capos Kostolansky. Part of her Helen's childhood was spent in Katlovce, Slovakia. She married Carl P. Lukacik on June 25, 1939 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh; who predeceased her. "Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devout Catholic with a great devotion to the Blessed Mother, attending weekly novenas. Her specialty was baking traditional Slovak pastries and breads. A hard worker, she was always giving of herself and her life centered around her family. Helen has touched so many lives and she will be sadly missed by all. She will be forever in our hearts." Helen graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and was a seamstress for Vickie Clothing and Licht & Kaplan in Newburgh. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and the PTA of St. Francis School. She was also a member of Club 60 in Newburgh and the ILGWU. She is survived by her loving children, Adele Miller and her husband, Newell of Goshen, Carol Thibeault and her husband, Richard of Camp Hill, PA; grandchildren: Eric Miller and his wife, Kathleen of Goshen, Richard Thibeault and his wife, Dena of Mechanicsburg, PA, Scott Miller and his wife, Angela of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, David Thibeault and his wife, Kelly of Furlong, PA; great-grandchildren: Matthew and Michael Miller of Goshen and Jack Thibeault of Furlong, PA; brother, Louis Kostolansky of New Windsor; brother-in-law, Harry Lukacik and his wife, Barbara of Newburgh; sisters-in-law, Jessie Lukacik and Ann Chinoransky of New Windsor; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Chinoransky. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 26, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550 or Celtic Hospice & Palliative Care, 150 Schurberry Lane, Mars, PA 16046.
