William A. "Bill" Mackey, of Newburgh, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest Sunday, February 6, 2005 in Fishkill Health Related Center after a long illness. He was 70. Son of the late Harold and Margaret (Rehrey) Mackey, he was born October 25, 1934 in Newburgh. Bill was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He retired from Sears in 1996 after 30 years; and was a member of Lockwood's Horseshoe League. Bill was a gentle man with a quick smile and beautiful blue eyes. He enjoyed doing projects around the house, horseshoes, and fishing trips to Canada with his dear friends. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Survivors include his loving family, wife, Loretta (DiLorenzo) Mackey, at home; stepdaughters, Lori Ann Mackey of Newburgh, Margaret Bayer and her husband Rick of Montgomery, and Donna Swee and Brian Swee of Newburgh; grandchildren, Kyle Swee and Lauren and Ryan Bayer; sisters, Doris DeCrosta of Newburgh, Ruth Lake and her husband Bruce, and Joyce McDonough of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Robert Mackey and his wife Bella of Newburgh; brothers-in-law, Carl DiLorenzo and his wife Mary, Ciro DiLorenzo and his wife Cathy of Myrtle beach, and Joseph DiLorenzo and his wife Laurie of Walden; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Alice Riss and a brother, Frank Mackey. Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Tuesday, February 8 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 9 in St. Mary's Church, Newburgh, with Father William Scafidi officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations on Bill's behalf may be sent to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society, 1838 Greene Tree Rd., Baltimore, MD 21208.
