  Mary Jane "McShane" Nikolich, age 70, of Kennett Square, East Marlboro Twp., PA, died on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Christiana Care, Wilmington, DE, following a brief illness. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late John Nikolich who died in 2001. She was born in Newburgh, NY, to the late Francis and Marion (Griffin) McShane. Mrs. Nikolich graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy in 1949 and attended Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, obtaining a B.A. in English. She then received a Masters of Arts in English from Columbia University in New York, NY. She taught English at the Newburgh Free Academy in 1960 and then taught English as a second language after devoting herself to family and homemaking until her sons were grown. She was a lifelong lover of literature. Mrs. Nikolich worked for the past 15 years for the Resettlers Inc. of Centreville, DE, as Director of Public Relations. Mrs. Nikolich was a social person who led a very active life. She touched many lives and devoted herself to service. In her youth she traveled and lived abroad as her father worked in Central America and the Mediterranean. She enjoyed living in Switzerland, Germany and England in her adult life. She was a lifelong world traveler who loved her experiences on the road. As a faithful and active member of St. Patrick's Church, she served as an usher and greeter and on various church committees. She embraced her Irish roots. Mrs. Nikolich was passionate about the success of the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library and volunteered countless hours to the cause. A member of the Kennett Square Golf & Country Club, she enjoyed playing golf and tennis. MJ's heart was always at the beach and she truly loved spending time at her Fenwick Island property with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. She is survived by her 3 sons, Mikeljon P., and his wife ,Gretchen of Takoma Park, MD, Mark G., and his wife, Jennifer of Wilmington, DE and Kristopher F., and his wife ,Jennifer of Birmingham, AL, 4 Grandchildren, Elise Marie Nikolich; Kamren John Nikolich; Brienna Rose Nikolich and Audrey Jean Nikolich. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 A.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at St. Patrick's Church, Meredith St., Kennett Square, PA. Rev. Victor Sharrett will officiate. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A viewing and receiving time will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at the Nikolich residence, 123 Marlbrooke Way, Kennett Square, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library, Kennett Square, PA 19348, and or to the American Cancer Society, Westtown Office, 1615 West Chester Pike, Suite 102, West Chester, PA 19382. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., of Pottstown, PA.
