Eden B. "Edie" Rich, 74, of Chatsworth, CA passed away on May 7, 2020 in Northridge, CA. Eden was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Moishe and Peppy Barer on December 1, 1945. She went to high school at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY, and graduated in 1963. She went on to complete a BA from SUNY New Paltz and a MA from Columbia University and subsequently worked as a teacher. Later, she trained and qualified as a paralegal and worked for many years as an HMO legal analyst. Eden was an active member of Congregation Agudas Israel in Newburgh, NY for many years and later Temple Ramat Zion in Northridge, CA. Possessing a wonderful singing voice, she particularly enjoyed participating in the congregation's choir. She was an avid reader and life-long Star Trek fan. She was also an active member of Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America. Eden is survived by her sons Gregory Rich, of Newtown, CT, and David Rich, of Savannah, GA, and her daughter Alison Rich, of Canoga Park, CA. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Love Barer of Amherst, MA and Susan Saunders of Sharon, MA. Eden had 3 grandchildren (Krystal Williams, Samantha Rich and Jay Rich) and a great-grandson (Charte Carrow) as well as 3 nieces (Rachael Cohen, Jessica Saunders and Joy Saunders). Eden was pre-deceased by her husband Allen J. Rich and her parents Moishe and Peppy Barer. The funeral service was held via ZOOM on May 14, 2020 with Rabbi Ahud Sela and Rabbi Jacob Rosner officiating. Rabbi Sela offered a heartfelt eulogy as a close friend of Eden. A video recording of a virtual memorial service is available upon request. A future memorial service will be scheduled when the public health conditions allow. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rabbis Sela and Jacob as well as Congregation Agudas Israel's chevra kadisha committee. Memorial donations may be made in the form of having trees planted in Israel in Eden's memory (see jnf.org for more information). Any correspondence should be sent to Gregory Rich at 45 Parmalee Hill Rd, Newtown, CT, 06470. E-mail grich1110@gmail.com
