Willie Ruth Thompson was born July 20, 1950 to the late Willie M. and Annie R. Thompson Sr. in Fayetteville, NC. The family moved to Newburgh, NY where Willie graduated from Newburgh Free Academy high school in 1968 where she played sports and became a star in track and field for Glen Hines Boys and Girls Club in Newburgh. She held number one for 50 years until someone beat her record in 2018. Willie was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newburgh and she worked for IBM as a Custom Engineer. She later moved to Spring Valley N.Y. where she worked at Edwin Gould Academy and other jobs. She leaves to mourn her, one son Darren D. Moody, NYC two sisters Ester M. Hayes of Spokane,WA and Saundra D. Lanier of West Palm Beach, FL and one brother Willie M. Thompson Jr. of Spring Valley, NY, four grandchildren, Kenneth D. Moody, Justin K. Moody, Amanda M. Moody, Darren A. Moody and one great granddaughter Grace G. Moody, one aunt Reverend Mrs. Ida M. Jones, Fayetteville, NC and one uncle, Clifford Ellerby, Raleigh, NC plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
