Hannah Frager Israel died Friday (Sept. 4, 2009) in Delray Beach, FL, after enjoying a grand life of 88 years. Throughout the many years of fulltime work and active community participation, her home-cooked meals each evening were the centerpiece of her familys life. She was adored by her children, who throughout her life looked to her for both loving comfort and sage advice. In Newburgh, she was a member of the Agudas Israel Congregation and was active in both the Sisterhood and local chapter of Hadassah. Hannah and Sidney operated the store and a second branch in Cornwall, until retiring in 1979 to Florida. In Florida, Hannah enjoyed the camaraderie of new friends and discovered golf, while re-discovering a love of cards, especially bridge and canasta. In Florida she as an active volunteer in the Community Hospital, which repeatedly attempted to engage her as the manager of their gift shop; served on many different committees of the local Delray Chapter the Florida Atlantic Region of Hadassah and was a Past-President of the Delray Beach Chapter of the Brandeis National Committee. These activities reflected her commitment to social justice and to education, which remain key themes in her familys lives. She is survived by her husband of 64 years and her sons, Mark A. Israel, MD; Robert S. Israel, Esq.; her daughter, Leslie G. Goldhar; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a slew of loving nieces and nephews.
