Samuel Policano - Class of 1949

    Samuel J. Policano Jr., "Sonny" 88, of New Windsor, NY, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the comfort of his own home. The son of the late Saverio Sr. and Eleanor Presutti Policano, he was born in Newburgh. Sam attended Newburgh Free Academy and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. Sam held many professions, including a professional singer for Vassar Records, owner of Linda's Gifts, and retail clerk for Lloyd's Department Store. Sam was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. Sam shared 51 years with his best friend, faithful companion and loving partner in life, Al Miller. Sam loved life and lived and breathed music every day of his life. He shared his life with his sisters and brothers that he loved so very much. Sam shared his love for music by singing and playing music to his siblings, nieces and nephews. Although music was his passion, Sam also enjoyed playing cards, board games and dancing. He encouraged all of us to be our best selves and to follow our dreams. He was very forgiving, and his faithfulness and keen mind always kept us coming back for more advice and ideas. He loved company and his door was always open for anyone who wanted to come in for a cup a coffee and conversation. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his partner Al, he is survived by his siblings: Gloria Amodeo, Frank Policano, and Rosemarie Megyesi; nieces and nephews: Mary Anne Amodeo, Linda Amodeo, Thomas Amodeo Jr., Mark and Toni Policano, Michael and Keryl Policano, Donna and Adrian Goddard, Toni Marie and Kyle Zeyher and family, Thomas John Amodeo III, Shayna and Joseph Latino and family, Julian Goddard and Alex Goddard. He was predeceased by his sister Antoinette Presutti Policano, sister-in-law Shirley Policano, and brothers-in-law Thomas Amodeo and Donald Megyesi. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, October 19 at Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh. Due to occupancy restrictions please be aware a wait time may be necessary, and masks are required at all times. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 20 at Sacred Heart Church, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. - November 26, 1931 - October 13, 2020
