Julianne Cartland Callister of  New Windsor, NY passed away December 5, 2020. Daughter of Florence (Angie) Zempoluch Callister and Jeffrey Cartland Callister, Juli was born on November 29. 1977 in what we laughingly called "St. Luck's Hospital" in Newburgh, NY She made her voice heard and spoke her mind from the second she was born. She resided in the Towns of Newburgh, Marlboro and New Windsor her entire life. A 1995 graduate of NFA, she was employed by Spectrum (formerly Time Warner) in Middletown which has been very supportive in this sad time. Known to many in the Newburgh area as "Mama Juju", Juli opened her heart and home to friends, the friends of her children and family members who had fallen on hard times. She gave comfort, hope, food, a bed and an open heart and ear as well as a lecture if it was called for. She was a mensch. Once a week, Juli and her beloved children, Elise and Jarreyn, would share dinner with her parents before they all worked on the latest jigsaw puzzle on the back porch while listening to and singing along with an Adele CD. It was an important bonding time for us all. Next to driving a great looking and preferably fast car, Juli loved travel and learning. A favorite location was the Ocean City, Maryland area where being able to sit in the sun, surf the waves in the salty ocean water, help her kids fly kites, dig holes to China, build sand castles and bury each other in the sand was Nirvana! Did I mention the allure of buckets of crabs to smash open and devour? Sadly, the tentative plan to travel to St. Petersburg, Russia with her father and sister after Covid has become another dream deferred. Rarely did Juli turn away an animal who was in need. Homeless cats and abandoned dogs were common "gifts" to her parents when she was young. The need to save those who needed saving never ended. Even squirrels were hand fed with peanuts for years before her spoiled pit bull Dutch and pit mix Tilly made life too dangerous for squirrels. She loved that 2 cardinals would visit her house every day and often spoke of how she thought it was her Granny coming to check on her. Now, we all feel that every time WE see a cardinal around our homes, that Juli is checking in on us and letting us know she is OK. We find it comforting. Did you say you needed help putting furniture together, or help mounting a new TV, or someone to clean up the yard after a tornado, or paint or help you move??? Then SHE was your woman. And some colorful language was often thrown in for your delight. Juli has left a huge space in the lives of those she leaves behind. But she also gave us two magnificent young people who already carry on her legacy of loving and caring and being genuinely good people “ Elise Delgado and Jarreyn Lee. They were loved unconditionally and beyond all measure. The three of them loved each other fiercely and we thrived on that energy. Elise and Jarreyn are blessed to be surrounded now in their time of grief by a large and loving group of friends, especially Jess who was like a daughter. Also left to mourn are her sister Brigitte (Phil) Armstrong of Toronto, Canada and their children Zelda and Thor; her aunt Caren (Mike) Doherty of Jacksonville, FL; her husband Jorge (Junior) Lee who is so supportive of his son and daughter; her mother-in-law Jackie Madell; sisters-in-law Annie (Carlos)Csoke and their 4 amazing daughters Tiffany (Felix) Taveras, Mariah Cynthia, Cyrena and Cyara who are more like sisters; Maria, Jessica and Rosemary Lee; her brothers-in-law Marcus Lee, Mario Lee and Brian Rivera all of NY and Jon Pires. Special thanks also to Maria, Jessica and Brian's mother Sonia; Steve Aviles, Mark Huerta and Danny who gave of themselves. So many others – friends and friends of friends who with their messages have helped ease the pain. We want to thank the New Windsor police who helped in taking care of what was a most unexpected event. Their professionalism and caring attitudes were appreciated. There will be no funeral service or visitation. Special memorial events are planned for the future at the convenience of the family and will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Juli's memory can be made to the Hudson Valley SPCA PO Box 356 Vails Gate, NY 12584 or the pet shelter/sanctuary of your choice Arrangements are under the care of Anthony V. Cracolici of the Hudson Valley Funeral Home, INC, 239 Quassaick Avenue, New Windsor, NY 12553 To Plant Memorial Trees in memory, please visit our Sympathy Store. Published in Times Herald-Record from Dec. 9 to Dec. 10, 2020. - November 29. 1977 - December 5, 2020

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, "Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints in your heart." That captures the essence of Julianne Cartland Callister who left us all way too soon on December 5, 2020 at her home in New Windsor, NY. As a friend of hers wrote in a post, "Juli was a magical soul who left large footprints."
