Kynan G. Phillips (47) died on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Kaplan Hospice, Newburgh, NY. Kynan was born in Adelaide, South Australia on August 19, 1973 to Annie and Andrew. While God "knew him as he was being knit in his mother's womb" (Psalm 139), ten days later Kynan was knit into the hearts of Mary and Peter Phillips. Kynan attended Newburgh schools and was graduated from NFA in 1991. A few years at Hartford University, CT preceded his career with Verizon as a field technician. Kynan was a cartoonist at heart; he spent many hours as a younger boy drawing with some apparent skill and then was a life long fan of The Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert, and The Simpsons. He had a keen appreciation (and application) of their wit and irony. He was our valiant son during the year of suffering with colo-rectal cancer. Good humor and hope of beating the cancer was really a characteristic of most of his days. We are heartbroken that it was not to be. Our good God has called him home much sooner than we thought or wanted. "Mercy and eternal rest grant to him, O Lord." He is survived by his parents, Peter and Mary Phillips, his loving "very real" sister Peggy Phillips (Bill Rella), Schenectady, NY; brother Robert and sister-in-law Meredith Phillips, Texas, his nieces Victoria, Bailey, Taylor, and Morgan, and nephew Justin; his uncle Charles Moriello, cousin Matt Moriello, and a large loving family in Australia. Kynan was predeceased by grandparents Catherine and John Harris and Mary and John Phillips, Andrew, and his beautiful cousin Michelle Moriello. Our family is very grateful for the generous kindnesses of Kynan's colleagues and The Boyz at Mt. Kisco, Verizon; Dr. Ruiz, nurses, and office staff; faithful friend and Nurse Pam Reilly, and all of our praying friends in the U.S., Australia, and Jamaica. No prayer is in vain. Funeral service will be at Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh, NY on Thursday, Jan. 7 , with a walk-through visitation from 11:00 am - 12:00. Due to COVID limited occupancy restriction may require a wait, and masks and social distancing required. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kynan may be sent to either: Kaplan Family Hospice, 1 Sunrise Lane, Newburgh, NY 12550; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. - August 19, 1973 - December 31, 2020
