Sharon Ashton Amoia - Class of 1969

Sharon J. Ashton Amoia, of Wallkill, entered into rest on Saturday, April 17,
2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 70. Daughter of the late
Israel R. and Elizabeth Jane (Close) Ashton, she was born on February 7, 1951 in
Newburgh, NY. Sharon enjoyed school where she participated in volleyball, chorus
and glee club. She was always in style and made her own clothing. She was an NFA
graduate where she studied cosmetology. She retired from the Newburgh Enlarged
City School District in 2004, after 20 years at Gidney Avenue Memorial School
where she worked as a teacher’s aide. Sharon was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. She loved everything “family”, and went out of her way to make the
holidays special. She enjoyed cooking, and gardening, and looked forward to
spring flowers every year. Survivors include her daughter, Shantelle Ferranti
and her husband Christopher of Wallkill; a brother Edward M. (Catina) Ashton of
the Town of Newburgh; two grandchildren, Kacie Raine and Isabelle Skye; brothers
in law Mark (Bonnie) Amoia and Michael Amoia; sister in law Kim (Ralph) Amoia
Post; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sharon is
predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Amoia whom she married April 11, 1970
at St. Patrick’s Church. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 21, 2021,
from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation
Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY. Due to the continued public health
concerns, please know that there is an occupancy limitation which may cause a
wait time, please be respectful of your time visiting. Facial covering must be
worn in the funeral home at all times, and social distancing must be practiced.
A Graveside Service will take place 11:30 am, Thursday, April 22, 2021 at
Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, with Father Michael O’Machi officiating. In lieu
of flowers, donations in Sharon’s name can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice,
