George Sarvis - Class of 1974

  George M. Sarvis, III of Newburgh, NY was born July 29, 1956 in Newburgh, NY and passed peacefully on May 6, 2021 from complications related to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and COVID-19. George attended Newburgh Free Academy, was a lifelong Yankee fan, and a proud union member. He started as a letter carrier in 1981 with the United States Postal Service. He later became president of NALC branch 315 of Newburgh. In 2008, George became the president of NALC 137 Hudson Valley Merge. He represented 62 local offices in his term as President. George was a union member for 40 years with the NALC. George is survived by his wife Deborah, two daughters Jenna and Mallory, and his grandson Kayden Patterson (Wesley). Surviving family includes his father George M. Sarvis, Jr, and his mother Caroline (Crudele) Sarvis, brother James Sarvis and sister Marianne Sarvis, of Newburgh, NY and God Mother Rose Crudele. A special thanks to the all the doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Hospital 4 North, Salem Hill rehabilitation, and Putnam County Hospital 3 North. His home caregivers Marlene Galvez and Amanda Pekar Meyer, as well as his best friend Steven (Clete) Rockafellow who has known George since they were kids. Visitation will be held Monday, May 10 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral home service will be held Tuesday, May 11 at Brooks Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. - July 29, 1956 - May 6, 2021
