Betty Jane Bayous VanInwegen, 78, entered into rest on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Garnet Medical Center in Middletown, NY after a long fight with dementia. The daughter of the late Aaron and Lillian Baylous, she was born in Newburgh on June 30, 1942. She married her loving husband, the late Raymond L. VanInwegen Sr., on June 28, 1964 at the Oak St. Church in Newburgh. Betty attended Newburgh Free Academy where she earned her GED, and was a 60-year life member of the Good Will Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. Betty would do, and has done, anything she could for the GWFD. She loved the organization like a second family, and would leave home in the middle of the night to serve coffee and donuts to the workers without hesitation. Betty also worked as a clerk at Snackville Citgo Station for 30 years. Betty is survived by her son, Raymond L. VanInwegen Jr.; her daughter, Dawn M. Gallagher; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sabre, which she called her "baby" and loved him as such. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, with a Ladies Auxiliary service at 6 p.m. and a Christian service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Good Will Fire Dept, and the GWFD Ladies Auxiliary.
