Jean Mahood Everitt - Class of 1945

    Jean Isabel Mahood Everitt, 93, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Newburgh, NY, entered into rest on Monday, May 24, 2021. Jean was born in Newburgh, NY on March 7, 1928 to Harry C. and Isabella (McAfee) Mahood. Raised in Newburgh, she attended local schools and graduated from NFA in 1945 where she was known for her fun-loving personality. After graduation, she attended Rider University. In 1948 she met George W. Everitt and they married on July 24, 1949, settling in Newburgh. Jean and George built their home on Echo Lane and she was a full-time wife and mother to her two daughters and a part-time mother to many others. Their house was truly the "Do Drop Inn" and all were welcome. It was a place of many fun times, family celebrations and lasting memories. After George retired in 1984, they relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where they continued to host friends and family on a regular basis. Jean and George were married for almost 60 years before his death in March 2009. Jean was predeceased by her beloved sister and brother, Shirley Mahood Leonard Vanderhoof (1998) and Wallace Mahood (1991). She is survived by her daughters, Jean Dunley (Steve) of Wake Forest, NC and Shelly Jeeves (Mike) of Sebring, FL; her grandchildren, Keith Kirkpatrick of Franklinton, NC and Brian Kirkpatrick of Cary, NC; her great-grandchildren: Keely (Kirkpatrick) Young (Ronnie) of Oxford, NC, Kyle Kirkpatrick of Wake Forest and Trevor Kirkpatrick of Cary, NC; her great-great grandchildren: Kynzlee, Gabriel and Emma Young along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W North, Newburgh, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate "Our Nana is now the sun, moon and stars."  Gabriel Young, age 4.
