Robert Bauer - Class of 1945

      Robert M. Bauer, of Shawnee, Kansas, born and raised in Newburgh, New York, passed away on June 21, 2021, in Shawnee, Kansas. Born in Newburgh on October 17, 1927 to the late Francis "Dutch" and Mary (Calhoun) Bauer, Bob lived in Newburgh his entire life until moving to Kansas in 2016. Bob graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1945, playing varsity football. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving his country for two years. Bob returned to Newburgh where he began a career in the frozen food business, marrying Beverly Wescott in 1951. Together, they raised four children, Robin, Cindy, Kenneth, and Christopher. Bob was a former member of the Newburgh Kiwanis Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, The American Legion and two term president of Union Grove Elementary School P.T.A. Bob was a fun-loving and devoted sports fan. He was one of the founders of Newburgh's Pop Warner football league, as well as co-founder and the first president of the Town of Newburgh Little League. Bob was a long-time Army football fan, organizing weekly tailgate parties. Bob is survived by Beverly; Robin and her husband Joe of Shawnee, Kansas; Cindy and her partner Kathleen of Tampa, Florida; Kenneth and his wife Valerie of Westwood, Kansas; and Christopher and his wife, Karen of New Windsor, NY. He is adored by his six grandchildren: Laura, Nicholas (Jodi), Michael (Nicole), Abigail, Mary, and Madison, as well as six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Francis, Jr., Albert, Adelaide, Ruth, and Richard; also, niece Megan, nephew Joseph, and step-grandson, Bret. A family service will be held in Kansas. A private internment will take place in Newburgh, NY, at a later date. To plant trees in memory, please visit our Sympathy Store.
