Jack Dabrusin - Class of 1961

      Jack Dabrusin, owner of Dabrusin Auto Parts and a life-long resident of Newburgh, NY passed away at home surrounded by family after a long illness. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Margaret; his daughter, Dana Saintmire; grandchildren, Parker Saintmire and Marissa Saintmire; sisters, Donna Carbone of Murrells Inlet, SC and Wendy Lewis (Michael) of Melbourne, FL; uncle, Jack Gruberg; cousins Robin Licker (Steven) and Jay Wayne (Gerry), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan and sister, Gail Gallagher. Jack was born in Newburgh on August 22, 1943 to Elizabeth (Betty) and Harry Dabrusin. Jack married his best friend Margaret on February 7, 1970. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. The couple had two beautiful daughters, Dana and Susan. Susan was tragically killed in an accident at the Orange County Speedway in 1988. Jack began his career with IBM in East Fishkill. After a tour of duty in Vietnam while serving in the U.S. Army, Jack relocated to Houston, TX where he worked with IBM on the NASA space program. In 1970 he and Margaret returned to the Newburgh area to work in his father's business, Dabrusin Auto Parts. Jack eventually took over the business until retiring in 2014. Jack enjoyed stamp and coin collecting from an early age and had J & J Stamp and Coins with his cousin, Jay Wayne for years. Jack was an avid car enthusiast and owned a number of street rods, classic and muscle cars, as well as several Model A's over the years. He was a member of the Model A Restorers Club and enjoyed many Model A runs throughout the Hudson Valley. He also participated in and traveled to numerous car shows. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans and was involved in many of their activities. He especially liked the spaghetti dinners. Jack loved time with his family and spent his Sunday mornings making his famous pancakes for family, friends, and grandpuppies. Jack was a spiritual man and was an active member of the Congregation Agudas Israel where he served several terms as President. Jack will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him. Jack's service will be held at the Congregation Agudas Israel, 290 North Street Newburgh on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Congregation Agudas Israel Cemetery, 140 Erie Avenue, New Windsor, NY 12553. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Susan Abby Dabrusin Memorial fund at Congregation Agudas Israel.
