James Alan Spadinger, 79 of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 5, 1941, in Buffalo and was the son of the late Paul Theodore and Margaret Rose Spadinger. Jim was a graduate of Kenmore High School, class of 1959 (the last class before Kenmore split) and Cortland State University. During college he was a four year Red Dragon baseball pitcher. He was a proud Marine. He started his career as a science teacher at Monroe Woodbury and then taught physical education at Newburgh Free Academy. While there he coached football and basketball. He retired from the federal government as a personnel management specialist. As he would say, his best job was coaching golf at Monroe Woodbury because he played all the best golf courses. Jim was an avid golfer, reader and loved baseball, especially the N.Y. Yankees. He was the beloved husband of Josephine "Jo" Beninati Spadinger; devoted father of Catherine (Bill) Sheffield of Ballston Spa, Paul "Ted" Spadinger of Menands, and Meg (Jamie) McCarthy of Albany; former father-in-law of Lisa Spadinger of Loudonville; brother of Martha Lee (George) Kasnic of Gainesville, Fla.; cherished grandfather of Thomas and Maddie Sheffield, Isabella and Luca Spadinger and Matthew and Ryan McCarthy; also survived by several nieces and nephews. At Jim's request, there will be no services. Donations in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
