Edith Kaplan Fischer - Class of 1948

  Edith Kaplan Fischer, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 2 after a beautiful and rewarding life filled with the love of her family, the discovery of Native American artisans, and the support of brilliant students from around the world. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by her husband Joseph and daughters Sara and Nora, and is predeceased by her daughter Dena. She is also, survived by her seven grandchildren, Emily, Max, Margaret, David, Gordon, Sam and Henry, and her great-granddaughter Josie. Born April 29, 1931 and raised in Newburgh, NY. Edie graduated from Syracuse University, married Joe and moved to Manhattan. After raising their three children in Tenafly, NJ, she relocated to Beverly Hills CA in 1981 where she devoted her life to enriching the lives of others. From artists and students to her adoring children and husband of 67 years, Edie's grace, love and humanity will remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever. Edie was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in 2005 for her many years of volunteer service and philanthropic support. As an art lover and benefactor, she was a long-time member of LACMA Art Museum Council and a collector of Native American pottery and jewelry. Services will be held at noon on Thursday, August 5th at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills (masks required). In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, or to the American Technion Society, ATS.org.
