Born October 2, 1940, in Newburgh, New York he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Crystal) Costa. On June 20, 1964, Tony married the love of his life, Andrea Wilma Koisch in Newburgh, New York. They had over 57 happy years together before his passing. After attaining his bachelor's degree in accounting, Tony attended the Brown University Graduate School of Banking. In 1970, at the age of thirty, Tony became the President of New Paltz Savings Bank. Over the next 34 years he worked in banking in the Hudson Valley. His lengthy career provided him with the expertise and relationships needed to successfully found Empire State Bank in Newburgh, New York in 2004 where he served as Chairman and CEO until his retirement in 2016. Throughout his life Tony enjoyed athletic pursuits. He was an avid skier and golfer and loved to stay fit by working outside, riding his bike, and going to the gym. He enjoyed traveling and had an adventurous soul which led to excursions that included white water rafting, scuba diving with sharks, and skiing and golfing all over the world, all with his beautiful wife at his side. Most of all he enjoyed building relationships, both in business and personally. He had a huge heart, loved telling stories, and offered the hand of friendship and support to everyone who crossed his path. Good food and drink brought him tremendous pleasure in life as long as they were shared with family and friends and lots of laughter. He was friend and confidant to many, and his influence as a father figure reached far beyond his immediate family unit.
