John Brown - Class of 1978

    John Watis Brown transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Harbor Hospice Center, Baltimore, MD. "Skibo", as he was fondly called by family, was born on September 24, 1958, in Newburgh, NY, to Johnny Brown and Callie Brown. John graduated from Newburgh Free Academy High School, class of 1978. He continued his secondary education at the reputable Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY, where he graduated in 1981. Skibo was awarded the title of the "Family Chef " by his loved ones. John interned at the original historic World Trade Center, Manhattan, NY. He was employed with a number of prestigious food establishments, including Hotel Thayer of West Point, NY; Beau Rivage of Marlboro, NY; JW Marriott of Washington DC; and Hilton Hotel of Crystal City, VA (one of the largest tourist areas), as a sous chef. After perfecting his passion in the food industry, John changed careers and became employed with U.S. Foods as a professional truck driver, where he retired after 14 years of dedicated service. John was a proud and very active member of the motorcycle club vested as €œThe Reapers.€ He had an admirable passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle that was known as "The Heifer." He enjoyed fishing, whether by boat or land, roller skating, and being a doting Grandpa. John was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Brown; sister, Chrishana Brown; and grandmother, Burlena Riggans. John's memory will be cherished and remembered by his loving wife, of 41 years, LaQaunda Shea Brown of Glen Burnie, MD; four sons, Tyshawn Brown (Jontell) of Willingboro, NJ, Kenton Brown, Kaleb Brown, and Kevin Brown, all of Glen Burnie, MD; two grandsons, Amori Brown of Willingboro, NJ and Keith Brown of Glen Burnie, MD; and two granddaughters, Te'kira Spires of Dundalk, MD and Onia Brown of Willingboro, NJ. Moreover, he will be missed by his loving mother, Callie Brown of Elizabethtown, NC; five sisters, Venice Williams of Bethlehem GA, Sharon Campbell (Garth) of Baltimore, MD, Lisa Ross of Newburgh, NY, Lisa Diane Allen of Elizabethtown, NC, and Teresa Lawrence of Bronx, NY; three brothers, Ricardo Ross (Pete) of Titusville, FL, Michael Ziglar of Teaneck, NJ, and Alfred Brown of Beacon, NY; mother-in-love, Lucinda Lanier; father-in-love, Willie Lanier; five godchildren, Roland Willis, Samantha Lanier, Melissa Iriarte, Tamara Tesheira, and Ashely West; special friends, Doug and Tamara Quill, Frank Matos, and Quinton West; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. John will be missed immensely by all that knew him.
