Vito Cracchiolo, Jr. was surrounded by family when he passed into eternal rest Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at his longtime home in New Windsor, NY. Vito (“Uncle Junior”) was born January 5, 1945, in Newburgh, NY, to the late Vito and Mary Cracchiolo. After high school Vito worked at DuPont and was drafted into the Army, from which he would receive an Honorable Discharge. It was at his earlier job at the Grand Union supermarket, however, where Vito met his future wife, Stephanie. Earning degrees at OCCC and Pace University, he started a long and fulfilling career at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., forging many friendships in his office and among industry colleagues. Through Central Hudson, he participated actively in United Way campaigns. An outgoing, dedicated family man, he devoted himself to his sons, in part, by managing their baseball teams, eventually serving as President of the New Windsor Little League. As the years passed he relished tee-time with coworkers and with his lifelong best friend/brother-in-law, Bob, in addition to watching baseball and football games, at home or at the stadium. He was deeply committed to family traditions of togetherness, enjoyed Broadway shows, and jumped at the chance to travel when the occasion presented itself, with Cape May, NJ, being a favorite destination. He adored his cocker spaniel Lady / “Weezy” with whom he enjoyed walks around the neighborhood, along the Hudson, at local parks, and in visiting family members. Vito is survived by his sons: Darren Cracchiolo (Jessica) of New Windsor, NY, and Bryan Cracchiolo (Eugenio) of New Windsor, NY; sisters: Isabella Gizzarelli Mackey of Newburgh, NY, Dorothy Lanspery (Robert) of Montgomery, NY; sisters-in-law: Gloria Cracchiolo of Newburgh, NY, Jan-Marie McHale of Marlboro, NY, Deborah Horos (John) of Newburgh, NY; nieces and nephews: Joseph Gizzarelli (Nadeen) of Newburgh, NY, Louis Gizzarelli (Lori Beth) of Newburgh, NY, Michael Gizzarelli (Kim) of Highland, NY, Deborah Westfall (Michael) of Newburgh, NY, Stacy Talarico of Montgomery, NY, Rob Lanspery (Marcy) of Montgomery, NY, Kara Ostrander (Michael) of Ballston Spa, NY, Alex McHale of Austin, TX, Daniel McHale of Savannah, GA, Jeanne Marie Denizard (Gregg) of North Weymouth, MA, cousins: Linda Casucci DeBenedectis (Alex) of Tarrytown, NY, Dianne Casucci of Newburgh, NY, and Susan Lang (Lance) of Newburgh, NY, along with many grandnieces and grandnephews. Vito was predeceased by his wife Stephanie, his brother Salvatore Cracchiolo, Sr., his sister Mary Fisher (Cracchiolo), his brothers-in-law Louis Gizzarelli, Robert Mackey, Robert Fisher, his nephew Salvatore Cracchiolo, Jr., and by many other beloved family members. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 26, from 4-7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center: https://www.alscenter.cuimc.columbia.edu/make-gift.
