Rhea Penoyar died peacefully on November 6, in her daughter's home in Edgewater, Md. She is survived by her sister, three children, eight grand-children, 11 great grand-children and 1 great-great-grand-child. Rhea was born on July 8, 1930 in Newburgh, New York. She was one of 4 children. She loved growing up in this small city on the banks of the Hudson with her family and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all living within blocks of one another. Rhea married William Penoyar at 19 and they moved to Orono, Maine so that her husband could finish his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine. From there they moved to College Station, Pennsylvania, then to northern New Jersey. They had 3 children along the way. After a short stay in Kent, Ohio, the Penoyar family wound up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Rhea loved her life in Chevy Chase and especially loved raising her kids there. After 5 wonderful years there, the family moved to Lakewood, Washington in the Pacific North West. This wasn't her most favorite home, but she made the most of it getting involved in golf and tennis and attending the new local community college to further her education just for fun. After ten years of life in Lakewood, she and her husband made their way back to the East coast to settle into their home in Ulmstead Estates on the Magothy River in Maryland. Hands down, this became her favorite home location. She made many friends in this very friendly neighborhood. She especially enjoyed playing tennis and relaxing at the neighborhood pool. She remained in Ulmstead for 20 years and loved every minute, especially when her kids and grandkids came to visit, which was quite often. When the Ulmstead home became too much to care for, she downsized into a comfortable town home in Heritage Harbor in Annapolis, Md., and remained here until the last year of her life. During all of these places she called home, she made many friends along the way. She will be greatly missed by all, but she would tell anyone who listened that she had a Blessed life and to not grieve as she will be in her new home in Heaven. A family memorial celebration of her life will be held next summer near the town of her birth. Published by The Capital Gazette on Nov. 9, 2021.
