Kenneth Robert Van Housen - It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth “Kenny” Van Housen announces that he passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. He was 51. The son of the late Robert K. Van Housen and Thelma M. Van Housen (Pitman), Kenny was born on May 30, 1970 in Nyack, NY. Kenny was a lifelong resident of Newburgh and attended Newburgh Schools, having graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1988. Kenny had a brief career as a Corrections Officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Kenny loved bowling and fishing and was a diehard New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a faithful beach bum that loved his feet in the sand and the wind in his face. Kenny’s quick wit and sense of humor would put a smile on anyone’s face. He was one of the kindest and sensitive souls you could ever meet. Kenny will always be remembered for his courage during difficult times, and even though he took his life, we know he is at peace and without pain now. Kenny was loved far more than he realized and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his mother of Surfside Beach, SC, Kenny is survived by his sister, Karen, and her husband Steven Beam of Geismar, LA; his brother, Karl, and his wife, Lauren, of the Town of Newburgh; and his brother, Kevin, of Indianapolis, IN. He is further survived by his nieces, Hayley Van Housen and her fiancé, Stephen O’Connell, Jordan Beam and Teagan Van Housen; and his nephews, Ryan Beam and Benjamin Van Housen. He is also survived by his great niece, Raelynn O’Connell and great nephew, Leland O’Connell. The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, December 9 from 4 to 7 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A memorial service will take place at 6:30 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Kenny’s name be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. - May 30, 1970 - November 30, 2021
