Robert Evans - Class of 1957

      Robert J. Evans Sr., Age 83, entered into rest on December 29, 2021. The son of the late Walter Evans and Florence (Devereaux) Evans, he was born in Newburgh. He married Carolyn Terrasi on April 4, 1960, who survives at home. Robert was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy Class of 1957. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1957-1963 as Military Police during the Cold War where he received many awards and recognitions, spending most of his time overseas in Turkey and other countries. He was employed as a Carpenter in a family business, and later started a career with Central Hudson as a Roving Mechanic in 1967 for 31 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He loved spending time with family and friends and sharing stories of his childhood and time spent overseas in the US Air Force. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, children and everyone that knew him. In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by his children: Elaine Vigorito (James), Wallkill, Robert Evans (Teresa Narciso), Newburgh; Charlene Nickel (William), Newburgh; grandchildren: Nicholas Evans (Scarlet) Maine; Alexandria Vigorito (Cait Valentine) Wallkill; great-grandchildren: Bailee, Logan, Ivy and Caspian (Evans); sibling Joan LaDue Rojas; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and pets Mo-Mo and Lulu. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Walter Evans, James Evans and Nancy Hamel; and beloved pets Delilah and Baxter. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, January 3 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. Memorial Contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
