LeRoy Smith - Class of 1985

    LeRoy A. Smith of Walden, NY, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, January 1, 2022, after a short illness in which he was being lovingly cared for by his niece Samantha James. He was 55. The son of Susan D. Ferguson and the late LeRoy Smith, he was born August 30, 1966 in Newburgh, NY. LeRoy graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, in 1985. He then joined the Navy. LeRoy worked as a security guard for Entergy previously Indian Point, in Stony Point, NY for almost 19 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a Operations Specialist. He served from 1985-1989 on the USS Nashville LPD-13. Upon discharge, he remained in the Navy reserves. LeRoy was a Patriot in every sense. From his time in the United States Navy, to all the non-profits he donated to, his passion was helping. LeRoy was a lifetime member of the NRA and very active member of Duck's Unlimited, where he was formerly a Chairman. LeRoy was a former member of the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club and Orange Lake Fishing Club. To know him, was to love him. He touched the hearts of so many including all those he encountered at work. He was known for working hard, lots of OT and helping anyone he could. Unlike many of his coworkers, he knew people in all areas of the company grounds. Lee was truly one of a kind, he could bring people together unlike any other. LeRoy leaves behind to forever cherish his memory his mother Susan D. Morvillo, sisters Debbie Simpson, of Irvington, KY, Holly North of Cecelia, KY, brother Bryon "Butch" Smith and wife Jessica of Walden, NY, brother Carl Smith and wife Jami of Houston, TX, sister Sherry Snowman and husband Bob of Newburgh, NY and sister Kimberly Golas and husband Joe of Owls Head, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great, great niece and nephew. He also leaves behind cousins and his God children including "the boys" which he cherished with all his heart as well as their parents James and Dawn Dolan of Raleigh, NC. LeRoy was predeceased by his father LeRoy Smith and brother-in-law Danny Simpson. His contagious smile, generous spirit and humble heart, will forever be missed by all whom were blessed to know him. While his memories will be held near and dear in heart. A graveside service will take place Monday, January 10, 2022, at 11am at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
