Celia P. Piscitelli Vanacore, of New Windsor, New York, who taught in the Newburgh public school system for more than 40 years died peacefully on January 31. Celia was born and raised in Newburgh, New York, the daughter of Italian immigrants who instilled in her a work ethic that served her well throughout her life. As a teenager she worked as a salesperson in Newburgh community stores. Celia received her bachelor's degree from Ladycliff College and her master's degree in education from Fordham University. She was a member of the Newburgh Teachers Association, and she served as its treasurer for several years. Celia was truly a devoted, family-oriented person. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces, and for her grand nieces and nephews. Comments like "Love you forever" and "Sleep with the angels" came easily to Celia. She will always be remembered by Carla (Gary McDaniel), Elena (Vincent Rotolo), Nicholas and Grace, and Charlotte, George and Freddie. Celia will always be remembered by her students because she was always available to help them whenever they needed her guidance and assistance. She loved her students. Celia had been a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. She volunteered her services for many years at Saint Luke's Hospital. Celia is survived by her sister Rose Piscitelli, her sister Ann Labianca and her brother-in-law, Frank, whom she always referred to as her brother. Visitation will be held Monday, February 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. Mass will follow at Scared Heart Church at 12 noon. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Sacred Heart Church or Saint Luke's Hospital are preferred. - June 17, 1929 - January 31, 2022
