Alan Cannon - Class of 1975

      Alan "Al" D. Cannon, 65, of Cook, passed away on April 21, 2022. He was born on October 21, 1956, to Francis & Mary (McQuiston) Cannon in Newburgh, NY. He attended Newburgh Free Academy and graduated in 1975. After high school, Al joined the Air Force and had a long military career working as a criminal investigator stateside and overseas. He enjoyed serving his country for 21.5 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-9). Upon retirement, he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Bellevue University. He also worked for an additional 20 years at Werner Trucking. On July 24, 2004, Al married Glennis L. Smith in Cook. He spent his free time serving with the Cook Volunteer Fire Department, fishing, gardening, and, most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Huskers and New York Giants fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and John Wayne movies. He is survived by his wife Glennis Cannon; sons Brandon (Misty) Cannon, Ryan Cannon, Aaron Cannon, and stepdaughter Kandi (Trevor) Bilslend; grandchildren Caleb Cannon, Ayden Cannon, Lydia Bilslend, Lily Bilslend, Finlay Cannon, Aingeal Cannon, Ireland Cannon, and Lachlan Cannon; siblings Susan Hackel, Frank (Kathleen) Cannon, Michael Cannon, Claudia (Paul) Nickoloff; also, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded by his parents and brother-in-law Ed Hackel. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home in Syracuse with family greeting friends. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 7th at Kandi and Trevor Bilslend's home (73575 622 Ave, Cook, NE 68329) 1 to 7 pm. Burial will take place on Sunday, May 8th at the Cook Cemetery at 4 pm. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
